Virtues of Umrah 101

Allah SWT says in the Qur'an:
"And complete the Hajj and Umrah in the service of Allah… "(Surah Al Baqarah: Ayat 196)

Abu Hurairah RA reports that the Prophet Muhammad SAW said:

"An Umrah is recompense and atonement for the period till the performance of the next Umrah" (Bukhari & Muslim)

Nabi Muhammad SAW has stated:

"The performance of Hajj and Umrah increase a person’s life span and eradicates poverty and sins just as rust is removed from the iron when placed in the furnace." (Targheeb)

For this very same reason Imam Nawawi RA has written that if Allah SWT grants the ability and guidance to a servant of His, it is Mustahab (preferred) to perform umrah frequently. (Sharah Manasik)

Amar ibn Abassa RA relates:

"Rasulullah (SAW) stated that the best of deeds is the performance of Hajj or Umrah." (Musnad Ahmad)

"Umrah is the lesser Haj." (Duri Manthur)

Abdullah ibn Mas'ud RA narrates that Rasulullaah SAW said:

"Perform Hajj and Umrah consecutively, for it removes improvision and sins like the furnace removes iron from gold and dirt from silver." (Tirmidhi)

Abu Hurairah RA narrates that -

Rasulullah SAW also said that those who are present for Hajj and Umrah are those that are present in his court ( i.e. they are classified as guests ). These people make du'a to Allah and it is accepted and they seek forgiveness and they are forgiven. (Ibn Majah)

Abdullah ibn Abbas RA narrates that Rasulullah SAW said that performing Umrah in Ramadhan (its reward) is equivalent to Hajj. ( Bukhari & Muslim)

In a similar narration from Imam Muslim, Nabi Muhammad SAW has said that performing Umrah in Ramadhan is equivalent to performing Hajj with him (SAW). ( Mishkat-ul-Masabeeh )

In another similar narration too - Rasulullah SAW said, "Performing Umrah in Ramadhan is to do Hajj with me." (Abu Dawud)
