Quick Hadith - 110

HADITH 1

Abdullah ibn Mas'ud RA narrates that Rasulullah SAW asked:

"Who loves his heirs wealth more than his own wealth?"

The Sahabah RA replied:

" O Prophet of Allah! There is none among us except that his wealth is more beloved to him than his heirs wealth."

(Upon that) Rasulullah SAW said:

"Verily his wealth is that which he placed forth (gave charity) and his heirs wealth is that which he left behind." (Mishkaat; Mi’raaj)

HADITH 2

Mutarrif RA narrates from his father that:

"I came to Rasulullah (SAW) whilst he was reciting "Alhaakumu al-Takaathur" ("the acquisition of abundant wealth has made you unmindful").

(Explaining this verse) Rasulullah (SAW) said:

"The son of Adam says, "My wealth... my wealth...' "

Rasulullah SAW further said:

"What belongs to you O son of Aadam is that which you ate and perished or you wore and got old or gave charity and preserved (the reward in the Hereafter)." (Ibid)

COMMENTARY

This Hadith encourages us to utilise our wealth to earn the Hereafter by giving charity to the poor and needy, by building Masjid, by sponsoring a student study Islam, and many other virtuous acts of charity. The charity will help us in the grave and the Hereafter. It must be clarified here that although the Estate of the deceased to his/her heirs will also be charity, but the sacrifice of giving during one’s lifetime will be greater, hence, the greater reward.
