Is Divorce Necessary To Marry Another Lady ?

According to Shari'ah, a Muslim male is permitted to have a maximum of four wives simultaneously.

The husband must meet the condition of maintaining equality among all his wives. Therefore, in principle, any man can marry another lady without divorcing his current wife.

However, in order to avoid bitter feelings to the present wife, a man should first discuss with his current wife - his intentions of marrying another person . That will save him from the negative consequences of betrayal, anger, revenge etc. being possibly expressed by the current wife.
