Dowry - The Wife's Right Exclusively

The Dowry - or Mahr in Arabic or Mas Kahwin in Malay - is the marriage payment which is the property and right of the wife exclusively. Neither does she have to share it with her husband, nor does she have to contribute anything from it to her parents or family. The Dowry is hers exclusively.

In many Muslim societies of the world, many ladies feel obliged to distribute the dowry to her husband, parents or family. Even worse, some heartless husbands and parents even ask for a "cut".

The wife does not have to fulfill any of these demands and expectations. The dowry in Islam is a special, noble gift to the wife upon solemnisation of Nikah. It is hers exclusively.
